Adding Your Robot or Team

Builders are welcome to add their own team and robots to this wiki. This page explains how to make a team page and a robot page, using ready-made layouts so you only have to fill in the details. When you're done, add your robots to the list on Teams and Robots.

You need to be logged in to create pages.

How pages are named

Team and robot pages live under Teams/, so each team's robots are grouped together:

  • Team page: Teams/TEAM NAME
  • Robot page: Teams/TEAM NAME/Robots/ROBOT NAME

For example, Teams/DeathByMonkeys and Teams/DeathByMonkeys/Robots/DeathByMonkeys. Use the same spelling of your team name everywhere, since it's part of every page address.

Making a team page

  1. Copy this address into your browser's address bar:
    https://robotcombatwiki.com/index.php?title=Teams/TEAM_NAME&action=edit&preload=Template:Team_page
  2. Change TEAM_NAME to your team's name (use underscores, or %20, for spaces), and press Enter.
  3. The edit box opens with the team page layout already filled in. Replace everything in CAPITALS, delete the rows and sections you don't need, and click Save page.

Making a robot page

  1. Copy this address into your browser's address bar:
    https://robotcombatwiki.com/index.php?title=Teams/TEAM_NAME/Robots/ROBOT_NAME&action=edit&preload=Template:Robot_page
  2. Change TEAM_NAME and ROBOT_NAME, and press Enter.
  3. The edit box opens with the robot page layout already filled in. Fill it in the same way and save.
  4. Add the robot to the Robots table on your team page, and to the list on Teams and Robots.

If the address trick doesn't work for you, create the page any other way (for example by searching for its name and clicking the red link), then open the Template:Robot page or Template:Team page, click View source or Edit, copy everything after the blue box, and paste it into your new page.

Tips

  • Photos: upload with Upload file in the left menu, then use the photo line near the top of the layout. Only upload photos you took or have permission to use.
  • Videos: paste a YouTube link into the Videos section, as shown in the layout.
  • Links: link your robot's and team's pages on RobotCombatEvents.com, where results and rankings are kept, instead of copying long results lists by hand.
  • Weight classes: link to the class page, such as [[Beetleweight|3 lb Beetleweight]]. See RobotClasses for the full list.
  • Keep it factual and write it in your own words. Other builders may add to your pages, too.
  • All team pages are listed in Category:Teams and robot pages in Category:Robots.
